About One Book

Welcome to One Book  One Galway

As part of our work in promoting literacy in schools, we ( The Home School & Community Liaison officers)  are currently in the process of organising the One Book, One Galway reading project. The aim of the project is to enable everyone in Galway city, both adults and children, to read one particular book over one month. The book we have chosen this year is Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo (reading age 8-12 years).

As HSCL teachers we work only in DEIS schools in the city but as the title of our project suggests, we would hope that all schools would like to participate in One Book, One Galway. We have ordered copies of Kensuke’s Kingdom for our individual schools, but should you wish to participate and are interested in purchasing copies for your school, Patricia Lyons from Tara Book Club has offered a very competitive rate of €4.50 per book, delivery €4 per school and any orders over €100 have free delivery.  In addition to this, we can offer each school a Teachers’ Resource Pack to accompany the book and we can provide the school with promotional material also.

We hope that you will consider participating in One Book, One Galway as it is a very worthwhile literacy project that all ages can enjoy. There are many related activities that you can do with the children to make reading the book an exciting and fun experience in the classroom.
